Fatigue and weight resistance are metabolic red flags.

Energy crashes, brain fog, and weight that won’t shift despite your efforts often trace back to how your body regulates blood sugar, cortisol, and thyroid function. I work with people who want to understand those patterns and address them through nutrition, lifestyle, and targeted support.

Every new patient starts with a short interest form. My office will follow up to schedule your Root-Cause Assessment.

Sound familiar?

Most people I see have been told their labs are normal, or that they just need to eat less and move more.

Energy & Focus

  • Energy crashes in the mid-afternoon
  • Brain fog that makes work harder than it should be
  • Waking up tired after a full night’s sleep

Blood Sugar & Cravings

  • Feeling shaky, irritable, or lightheaded when you go too long without eating
  • Sugar or carb cravings that feel hard to control
  • Fasting glucose or A1C creeping up year after year

Weight & Labs

  • Weight settling around your midsection with no change in how you eat
  • A way of eating that used to work and doesn’t anymore
  • Thyroid labs “in range” while you still have symptoms

Eating less and moving more doesn’t explain why your body stopped responding the way it used to. That’s the question worth investigating.

What They Don’t Tell You About Fatigue and Weight

Standard labs often look at one marker at a time, like a fasting glucose or a TSH. Each can come back in range while the system as a whole isn’t working well. Insulin resistance, for example, can develop for years before fasting glucose rises high enough to be flagged.

Blood sugar, cortisol, and thyroid function are closely linked. When one is off, the others tend to follow, and the symptoms overlap. Looking at them together tells you more than chasing any single number.

How I Work

I start with a detailed history of your patterns and priorities, including when your energy drops, how you eat and sleep, and what’s changed over time.

From there, we order the testing your history calls for. That often includes a comprehensive thyroid panel, cortisol rhythm mapping, and blood sugar markers such as fasting insulin and A1C.

We interpret the results in context to see where regulation has broken down, then build a plan around nutrition, lifestyle, and targeted support. The goal is steadier energy and blood sugar, and catching smaller problems before they become bigger ones.

Is This Right for You?

A good fit if you

  • Have insulin resistance, blood sugar swings, cortisol disruption, or weight that won’t shift
  • Are motivated to stabilize blood sugar through nutrition and lifestyle
  • Want data, not guesswork, to guide the plan

Not the right fit if you’re looking for

  • A quick weight-loss program
  • A single visit or a quick fix
  • Urgent or emergency care. Please contact your doctor or call 911.

How to Get Started

Metabolic patterns build over years, and changing them takes consistent work. The Monthly Care Plan gives us time to test, adjust, and track what’s changing.

Step 1: New patient interest form. Tell us about your symptoms and goals. My office reviews every form and will contact you to schedule your assessment.

Step 2: Root-Cause Assessment ($350). A 60-minute appointment covering your full history, prior labs, and current symptoms and goals. You leave with an initial action plan and lab orders.

Step 3: Monthly Care Plan ($350/month). Ongoing care with a three-month minimum: a monthly visit, a protocol built on your results (food, herbs, supplements, and lifestyle), and adjustments as things change.

Frequently Asked Questions About Metabolic Health

Is this a weight-loss program?

No. Weight can change as blood sugar, cortisol, and thyroid function improve, but it’s one of several things we track. The focus is on how your metabolism is working.

Fill out the new patient interest form, and my office will contact you to schedule a Root-Cause Assessment ($350, 60 minutes). After that, care continues through the Monthly Care Plan ($350/month, three-month minimum).

No. Many people I see have blood sugar markers that are drifting upward but haven’t crossed a diagnostic threshold. That’s often a good time to start.

Possibly. Many standard panels test only TSH. A comprehensive panel also looks at free T4, free T3, and thyroid antibodies, which can show patterns TSH alone misses.

Cortisol normally follows a daily pattern, highest in the morning and lowest at night. Mapping it with several samples across the day shows whether that rhythm is disrupted, which can affect energy, sleep, and blood sugar.

It varies by person and by what we find. Care starts with a three-month minimum so we have time to test, adjust, and track what’s changing.

No. I work with patients anywhere in the United States via telehealth, and see patients in person in Capitola.

Akkermansia, GLP-1, and the Metabolic Conversation We’re Not Having

abstract gut image

GLP-1 is everywhere right now. In my recent blog, I wrote about a plant-based way to support your own GLP-1 production. But there’s also a microbial side to GLP-1 that gets overlooked. It starts with a bacterium called Akkermansia muciniphila. Why Akkermansia Matters Akkermansia muciniphila is a keystone gut bacterium that lives in the mucus…

A Functional Medicine Guide to Detox Phases 1, 2, and 3

Many of my patients come to me having tried a “detox” — a supplement protocol, a restrictive diet, a juice cleanse — without feeling much better afterward. Sometimes they feel worse. That’s usually because detoxification isn’t a single event. It’s a coordinated, three-phase physiological process, and when one phase is unsupported, the whole system backs…

In our previous post, Weight Loss Drugs and Natural Alternatives, we explored the pros and cons of weight loss drugs for women facing metabolic health issues. But more importantly, we emphasized a broader goal: helping women understand the underlying causes of metabolic breakdown and using sustainable lifestyle and nutrition strategies to restore balance. The first…
