Endocrine Health
Laura Paris provides a complementary, holistic approach to endocrine health. She takes a Functional Medicine perspective by rooting out underlying causes and imbalances that contribute to endocrine disorders. She orders bloodwork to assess nutrient and hormone status. In many cases Laura detects endocrine imbalances that are mild or treatable with her holistic methods alone. She always works in harmony with her patient's conventional medical care, and refers patients to MDs or other specialists when needed.

Many endocrine disorders are mild enough to treat without medication. When people are taking medications, such as for hypothyroidism, diabetes, or menopausal symptoms, it is still important to treat the root condition. Medications may suppress symptoms and replace hormones, among other things; however they do not typically treat or nourish the original imbalances that caused the disorder. One example is Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, one of the most common endocrine disorders that Laura sees in her practice. This is an autoimmune disease that destroys the thyroid gland. Patients may be on thyroid hormone replacement, however this does not treat the underlying autoimmune aspect of the condition. There can still be a damaging inflammatory process that continues, with highly elevated thyroid antibodies. Laura addresses these issues to bring the antibodies and inflammation down, and help people go into remission. These complex and challenging cases are common in her practice.
